Pillsbury Calls Milwaukee Action Cowardly Hypocritical

A. E. Pillsbury writes to Albany treasurer Frederick E. Wadhams denouncing Milwaukee action by the American Bar Association. He accuses the majority of cowardice hypocrisy and force and withdraws from the association noting its transformation into a Bourbon club with color prejudice and removal of professional standards. The letter names William H. Lewis Butler R. Wilson and William R. Morris among the colored lawyers affected and cites public ridicule and a riot at the Milwaukee meeting.

Railroads Seek Arbitration for Grievances Against Workers

New York July 15. With Congress passing the Newlands bill to create an arbitration board for wage disputes between Eastern railroads and 8000 conductors and trainmen the roads demand the panel also consider grievances the roads hold against the men. Erie system resists arbitration. Chairman Elisha Lee said the railroads would press for an arbitration panel covering all differences between management and employees.
