Mann Wins Fight Upon Mail Rule In House

In Washington a section barring mailing letters and images to enemy countries was struck from the administration trading with the enemy bill. Republican Leader Mann and Rep Gard of Ohio led the opposition, arguing existing espionage laws cover mail misuse and that US relatives in Germany should not be unjustly curtailed. A provision to designate natives of enemy countries as alien enemies was also removed, replaced by a rule to designate only citizens of enemy nations. The exchange included warnings against spy scares and licensing fears, with Rep Walsh condemning the public information committee. The measure is expected to pass tomorrow.
