Weather Night Storm Hits Area With Lightning Damages

A severe storm caused fires and injuries across Massachusetts. A 12 ton crane was toppled at a Quincy quarry. Mrs. Seminara and seven children were displaced by fire at their Roslindale home. Mary Jordan in Roxbury was struck and fractured her skull. Rain drenched streets, water stood ankle deep, but farmers anticipate a fruitful harvest.

Lightning Rips Through Greater Boston Leaving Several Hurt

A severe electrical storm hit Dorchester Milton and Quincy near the Neponset River. Homes damaged trees toppled and chimneys collapsed as lightning struck 67 Bearse Street Dorchester. Mrs Helen Ericson and her two children John 11 and Fred 3 were knocked down. her dress caught fire and was extinguished by John.

Johnson to settle in France could alter extradition treaty

July 10 Chicago reports Jack Johnson the colored champion pugilist and convicted white slaver has decided to live in France. The move may alter the extradition treaty between the United States and France. Assistant District Attorney Harry A. Parkin notes the Johnson trial ended with one year and one day in prison and a $1000 fine and an appeal is pending.

Bonds for Johnson at stake in court appeals and pending trials

Two bonds, a $15 000 surety and a $30 000 personal bond, would be forfeited if Johnson fails to appear for sentence or to stand trial on remaining white slave charges. A forfeiture transcript could be used to levy Johnson’s property in France, and the attorney general would pursue any negotiated seizure through the State Department. Johnson, in Paris, says he will fight to the highest courts and plans to return in the fall if defeated.

New York July 10 government dissolution suit evidence shows the Motion Picture Patents Company and General Film Company with 22 defendants retaliated against independent film exchanges by cancelling their film supply contracts after failing to mix purchasing prices in negotiations.

Militia deserters face arrest and camp duties at Fort Strong

A search party with deserters' names and descriptions was sent to Central wharf to arrest the missing militiamen. Punishments vary. some deserters may serve time in Fort Strong while others perform camp duties such as policing and cleanup. The Third battalion of the C A C arrived at the island camp and began establishing the camp and its facilities with a busy 10 day schedule of drills, guard duties, and nightly instruction led by Colonel Walter Lombard.

Fire starts in Roxbury cellar. quick action prevents damage

Children playing with matches sparked a fire in a cellar at 5 Perch Street Roxbury yesterday noon an old mattress ignited by a flaming tinder. Firemen extinguished it before harm. The text then shifts to a New York hearing with J M Enser Emanuel Mendelbaum and James J Lodge discussing film patents and alleged trust dealings and contract cancellations. The hearing will resume tomorrow.

Mayor and Mrs Fitzgerald Host Argentine Guests Dinner

Mayor and Mrs Fitzgerald and their daughters Rose and Agnes were guests at a dinner in honor of Argentine minister Ro Malo Naon and officers of the training ship Presidente Sarmiento. The visit followed a previous afternoon and evening entertainment from the mayor as a reciprocal courtesy.
