Fire Ravages Holt Barn in Lexington Burns Four Racehorses

A large blaze struck the Benjamin Holt estate barn on Lowell Street in Lexington around midnight. The fire destroyed the barn and four fine thoroughbred horses, with total losses estimated at $10,000. No injuries reported.

Alarm from ox 54 at 1:15 reports a barn fire spreading rapidly across Williantly lit sky and town center. Firefighters rushed but hydrant absence limited water. They saved hog pens and several hundred valuable pigs, while over fifty cords of wood burned.

Firefighters saved the horse but Holt lost 20 tons of new mow hay, 218 dollars worth of grain, many wagons and farming tools. Sparks drifted to the Johnson house on North street. The lantern exploded in the barn lighting Holt’s shirt as flames engulfed the structure. He escaped to a fire box in his wagon.

Close Squeeze for San Jose in Thick Fog

The United Fruit steamer San Jose arrived from Port Limon Costa Rica and narrowly a big passenger liner avoided collision off Nantucket Lightship on a foggy Saturday night. Captain McKinnon steered the slow-moving fruit ship to avert danger as passengers aboard the liner sang and merried on deck. The cold night forced those aboard the San Jose to wear overcoats.

Aliens Mobbed at L Street Baths Riot Hits Beach Scene

A mob attacked foreigners at the L street bath house prompting police from City Point Station to intervene. Dozens were beaten or injured as towels filled with sand and water were used as weapons in a violent race riot. One elderly man nearly drowned, saved by a bystander. Over 8 000 people visited, and police plan patrols next Sunday. James O Keefe, 21, of Chelsea, was arrested for assault.

Civilians' Fleet Sails on Annual Provincetown Cruise

The Civilians' Fleet led by the U S S Chicago U S S McDonough and U S S Rodgers with 570 Massachusetts Naval Militia members sailed from Boston yesterday after 1 PM and anchored off Provincetown. Crews from Lynn Fall River New Bedford and Springfield onboard. The fleet will rendezvous at Provincetown and stay into the week. An 18 man band under Chief Musician Ives joined the Chicago.

Navy Fleet Plans Maneuvers From Provincetown to Maine

The fleet will return to Boston on July 15. Naval militia will practice target firing during the period. After maneuvers at Provincetown the fleet is expected to coast along Maine. Massachusetts squadron to be reinforced by Rhode Island and Connecticut ships U S 38 Machias and U 38 Ss Aileen join five ships for naval maneuvers. About 50 men at the navy yard assigned to the Chicago with Captain Daniel M Goodridge in command. McDonough led by Lieutenant-Commander Frederick G Robinson and Rodgers by Lieutenant Howard G Copeland.
