High Mark Men Sweep City of Boston Handicap Games

A large crowd witnessed the City of Boston handicap games on the Common yesterday. High mark men dominated events. Freddie Burns of B A A failed to place in the final after winning the semi final. R W Atwater of Tufts, who won the two mile at the New England Intercollegiates with a 15 yard handicap, finished third in the mile.

Intercollegiate runners shine in fast distance events

Jim Hennigan quit two laps from the three mile after a heady race. Francis Capper finished second in the half mile with a late burst. Tom Guething, scratchman in the quarter, pressed J W Grainger in a fine race. Atwater led the one mile, sprinting to third after a bold late move. Hoeffner led the half mile until Capper passed him. Desaulmer stood out in the mile and won.

Marblehead July 4. While Corinthian Yacht Club races were under way the sloop Jessie from Salem ran on Outer Endeavor reef with Cs Johnson his wife and three children aboard. Arthur F Wood and club members rescued them using a power boat and the Jessie was freed with only slight damage.

Motorcycle Rider Is Injured In Five Mile Race

Lawrence E. Harding son of a Brookline millionaire was thrown from his motorcycle during a five mile amateur race in Saugus. He lost consciousness after his machine burst and was tossed over the fence. He was taken to a local hospital where his condition was described as not alarming.

Independence Day water sports at Orient Heights carnival

A crowd gathered for 11 water events with notable results across age groups. Ouimet Sets Amateur Course Record At Woodland Golf

Francis Ouimet, the state amateur champion, broke the Woodland course record by one stroke with a 66 as crowds swarmed the day’s events. C P Whorf won Class A with 66, William Haseltine took 65 net in Class B, and E H Thayer led gross scoring with 77. An afternoon four ball tie prompted a playoff today between E E Bird and partners against Damon and Tewksbury.

Boston Man Leads Fleet In International Cup Trials

James F. Newman of Boston led the fleet in the second elimination trials for the International Cup defender in Gravesend Bay. The six mile race in light wind finished in 32 minutes 85 seconds, with Newman's time faster than yesterday's 1 hour 26 minutes 48 seconds. Dr Brown of Boston was disqualified for foul start.

City of Boston Swimming Races Draw Huge Crowd at Charles Basin

A large crowd estimated at 40 000 watched tense finals at the Charles River Basin with seven events, including the 100 yards and 50 yard races. An 11 year old swimmer Madaline Tonesley from South Boston briefly went under but Life Guard Sheerin promptly intervened preventing injury.

McCarty Stars in Senior Nationals Swim Meet

William McCarty of Brookline Gym Association led seniors by winning the 440 and 88 yard events and placing second in diving. Millie Wyman of Brookline Swimming Club swept the junior 100 and 50 yard swims. The event featured tight finishes, with McCarty edging Tom McMurry in the 440 and a strong relay showing for Brookline teams.
