Gettysburg Pa July 2 Not a Massachusetts man was in camp hospitals tonight though several visited for medicines. Past Commander Gilman recovered after heat illness. Massachusetts delegates toured battlefield while reunions and serenades highlighted the day.

Veterans cherish memories on a muddy Military Day

The Military Day gathering drew a modest turnout as veterans endured mud and cold to hear speakers led by Colonel Andrew Cowan. Major General John R. Brooke and Lieutenant Governor Burchard spoke, with Barry Bulkley reading Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. A 76 year old Confederate General Funk Hauser regaled the crowd with Civil War tales and the crowd praised the regular army officers. Thousands left Gettysburg camp and many will depart tomorrow as government blankets were delivered for the encampment.

Fire reported on German steamer Sioux off Barnegat

Shipping reports say the German tank steamer Sioux sailing from New York to Tuxpan Mexico caught fire near Barnegat. The Morgan line steamer Comus relayed the alert as the fire boat New York rushed to the scene. The Santa Maria later said the Sioux had the fire under control and needed no further help.

Close games marked the first guest night at Franklin Field rinks with over 70 players and about 300 spectators from Dorchester society. Ed Danahy and A L Hooper led the tightest match, Dannahy's team winning 14 to 18.

Death of Fannie Cooper of Stanley Gypsy Tribe

Mrs. Fannie Cooper widow of James Cooper and once Miss Fannie Stanley, a noted member of the Stanley gypsy tribe, died at the gypsy camp on East Lothrop street. She was 68 years old and passed away after long troubles of old age. The body will be taken to Cambridge tomorrow for interment.

Leg Fracture From Earth Fall In Dorchester

Richard Cawley aged 40 of 5 Lyons street Dorchester was injured while excavating a cellar on Percival street. Shortly before 3 pm yesterday he undermined an embankment which fell and fractured his left leg.

Fire at Rifle Range Destroys Medford Unit Buildings

Medford fire department responded early today to a blaze of unknown origin at the rifle range of Company E Fifth Regiment M. V. M. Lawrence Light Guard. The fire nearly destroyed the range structures and caused extensive damage. Local officials reported prompt suppression but no injuries were mentioned.

Fire destroys militia buildings near Forest and Elm

A fire on Forest Street off Elm between Medford and Melrose damaged militia buildings funded by General Samuel Lawrence. Fire alarms were remote about a mile away. the blaze gained headway before firefighters arrived. Loss is estimated at 15000 dollars.

Bravery and Crisis Aboard the Battleship Potts Stand

Chief Engineer Lieutenant Sterling and Ensigns Smith and Wellbrock with the engine room crew kept the ship afloat after a flood struck the battleship. Captain Potts ordered tugs to aid, ensured crew safety, and watched as the vessel moored off Jamestown. Navy officials praised Potts for calm leadership amid the crisis.
