Robbers assault is fatal in Springfield

Peter Beaupre a 55 year old night watchman at the C C Reed coal pocket in Springfield died at Springfield Hospital after being attacked last night. He was found unconscious this morning with four deep head wounds. Robbery appears the motive as his pockets and watch were missing and police have not yet identified the assailant.

John Dew in Boston for Trial

Passengers Rescued From Clyde Liner Cherokee After Peril

After 24 hours of anxiety, 60 passengers and crew were rescued from the Clyde line steamer Cherokee which ran aground near Brigantine Shoals. Captain Archibald, mates, and carpenter remained aboard as Captain Mark Caste and crew in the sloop Alberta retrieved the stranded group. Among the rescued were Lieutenant H. M. L. Walker and several New York residents. The Alberta completed the risky transfer over a lurching sea while life crews stood by, and the rescued were placed in hotels for treatment.
