Newsboys Scholarship Awarded To Jacob Rosen Of Boston

Jacob Rosen, 18, of 14 Seneca Street, wins the Boston Newsboys Club scholarship a 40 week Burdett College program in any department. Rosen, one of seven children, graduated Brimmer Grammar School in 1908 and the High School of Commerce four years later after eight years selling papers at the South Station Essex Street entrance. He is one of seven children and will study at Burdett College under the Newsboys Club award.

Taft Commutes Embezzler’s Term for Penitence

President Taft commuted the five year sentence of Lee F. Smith after his guilty plea to embezzling from East Worcester National Bank. Smith, who repaid $1000 and surrendered, received one year and one day with good behavior allowances. Court records show he stole $2125, with the act dated June 2 in Binghamton New York.
