Massive Torpedo Factory Blast Injures Three
At the M Backes Sons paper caps and torpedo works in Wallingford Connecticut an explosion on the second floor sent a flood of torpedoes flying. About 16 000 torpedoes detonated creating a 25 by 25 foot hole in the floor and blowing out the building’s west wall. Three operatives were slightly injured by flying glass while fifty workers on the floor escaped unharmed. A further 16 000 torpedoes nearby did not explode.
