Washington Feb 19 The Senate banking and currency committee reached an informal agreement that no action will be taken this session on Senator Weeks Massachusetts bill to abolish the comptroller of the currency. Weeks supported his claim that the comptroller's powers conflict with the Federal Reserve Board and read banker letters favoring board control. He said action by Congress is not possible now and reiterated his opposition to the renomination of John Skelton Williams. Weeks noted many state banks refused Fed inclusion due to the comptroller's personality. The committee's open meeting heard evidence on the renomination in executive session.
