A wounded man described as a veteran leader, nicknamed Tiger, was shot seven times by an anarchist. Three bullets struck, but only one caused notable injury. Clemenceau displayed bravery during the attack while Owens sustained a wounded arm but downplayed the incident.

Washington February 19 Congressmen Gallivan introduced a bill to repeal the November 21 1918 act prohibiting sale of distilled spirits for beverage use and grain use in beer wine or other liquors until demobilization ends. The measure if enacted would end war time prohibition and is seen as likely to gain strong support in Congress.
Herman Barney, young man about town, is the person sought by police in the Chelsea killing of Patrolman Charles F. Deininger. He has fled the city, and authorities vow to pursue him anywhere.
Boston police report a youth gang involved in auto theft linked to a policeman slaying. The gunman, seen last Saturday, fled likely toward New York or Chicago after learning of his suspected sweetheart Marion O'Brien alias Curry, arrested nearby. The gang’s runner is also in custody, while the chief suspect remains at large. The Chelsea tragedy aided recovering six stolen cars from Boston area victims in recent weeks.
Police Commissioner Curtis filed a Legislature petition to remove the police department’s right of appeal. The move follows an order restricting appearances before the Legislature unless approved. Police circles noted the petition as an action to limit department appeals.

General Pershing announced via cablegram to Congressman Alvan Fuller that the 26th Division will sail for home in the first part of April depending on shipping availability. The note settles previous conflicting statements about the sailing date, bringing relief to families and friends of the soldiers.

Today marks the anniversary of Tieury F Durant born 1822. A German submarine torpedoed the British steamer Cambank in 1915. The British Admiralty reports 15 merchant ships sunk that week. Rome records two steamships and one sailing vessel lost.
