Rioting, the worst since the February 3 textile strike began, erupted again in Lawrence around 5 pm with about 2000 strikers clashing with police on the Common and surrounding streets. Eight arrests were reported, followed by further clashes near Elm and Short streets, as loyal workers faced crowds.
About 2000 workers left Lexington Hall and marched in columns toward Canal Street mills. They roared and jeered across the Common toward Jackson Street where four officers tried to halt them. The crowd overwhelmed the patrolmen, reserves arrived, and they charged the mob.
The Senate agriculture committee favored reporting an $31,000,000 annual agricultural appropriation bill with committee amendments and adopted a daylight saving repeal amendment by unanimous vote. Chairman Gore proposed the repeal and Chairman Lever introduced a similar bill. Farmers groups prompted the repeal push and clock changes.
