Treasury plans Immigrant Commission in Boston debate
No action yet by the Treasury Department to establish an Immigrant Commission in Boston. Colonel Hepburn may visit Boston after finishing work at the New York Custom House. The first step would be terminating the contract with the State Board of Charities and shifting costs from the immigrant fund within five years after arrival, possibly adopting a one year limit. The aim is federal control and uniform procedure, with no three headed commission, as the matter remains open for months.
