Arrests Tangle in Weymouth Jewelry Theft Case

In Weymouth a domestic Mary A Brady confessed to participating in a jewelry theft from Mrs. Mary Tirrett of South Weymouth, leading to the arrest of Raymond Hutchinson. With witnesses absent the case was postponed to September 6 and Hutchinson jailed in Dedham. A portion of the jewels has been recovered. Brady escaped arrest on state evidence grounds.

Ohio doctor presses social service role in hospitals

Dr. Andrew R. Warner assistant superintendent of Lakeside Hospital Cleveland Ohio told the American Hospital Association conference at the Copley Plaza Hotel last night that hospital heads should be good social workers as well as good stewards. Brookline Auto Dealer Dies by Suicide in Hammock

Manas A. Spear 52, of 33 Summit Ave Brookline shot himself in the heart with a .22 revolver while resting in a hammock on his veranda. Autopsy by Medical Examiner Mackie attributed death to self-inflicted wound due to illness and despondency. Spear, a 32d degree Mason and Cambridge Commandery member, left a wife and son Harold. business affairs were reportedly in good order. The family planned to move from the large home to an apartment, with the new tenants moving in yesterday.

Woman Dies From Gasolene Burns In East Boston

Mrs. Hattie Cushing aged 34 wife of James B. Cushing of 8 Lexington street East Boston died last night at East Boston Relief Hospital from burns caused by an explosion of gasolene used to cleanse clothing. Neighbors extinguished flames as she tried to douse them. Fire alarm from Box 637 reported but only slight damage to the house.

Currency Bill Approved by House Democratic Caucus

Washington Aug 28 The administration currency bill won approval from the House Democratic caucus by a 163 to 9 vote after nearly three weeks of discussion. Dissenters named include Representatives Henry Eagle Calloway of Texas Hardwick of Georgia Lobeck of Nebraska Buchanan Fowler Neally and Sisson of various states.

Caucus Backs Bill as Party Measure with Amendments

After agreeing to the bill the caucus adopted a near unanimous resolution declaring the bill a party measure and pledging caucus members for final passage without amendment except the banking and currency committee may offer amendments in the House. The session featured a committee amendment substituting for bank reserves to clarify the original language. Chairman Glass will re introduce the measure tomorrow and it should be reported back and passed within ten days with Republican support.
