Boston tax rate climbs to record high for 1913
The Boston assessors set the 1913 tax rate at 17.20 per thousand, the highest in city history, amid a total valuation surpassing 1.52 billion dollars. The rise stems from larger city and state taxes and higher costs, with real estate gains dwarfed by bank stock increases and notable ward differences in property valuations.
