John Delaney aged 68 was found dead with a large head wound in his Dedham home at 62 Highland Street late yesterday. His son Richard J. Delaney aged 33 is held by police pending further investigation.
Police hold Richard Delaney after the elder Delaney was found dead in a Dedham home over the weekend. The son says an argument over Sunday dinner preceded the elder Delaney’s disappearance and he last saw him Saturday night. He faces arraignment in Dedham District Court as investigators probe mysterious circumstances.
A 14 year old girl, Eva Coulter, was struck and knocked unconscious during a burglary at John F. Duffy’s home in Mattapan. The intruder entered after posing as an insurance agent, ransacked the lower and second floors, found only about 90 cents, and fled after police were summoned. Eva, a housemaid for the Duffys, was not seriously harmed.
In a quiet special election at Revere Democrat George G. Burke defeated Republican Thomas P Somes for assessor 610 to 361. The town saw one of its mildest elections, despite high turnout expectations after recent voter anger over past assessor actions.
The report notes offers of payment for treatment and instruction aiming to cure defects. Miss Dacey explains that relatives from other cities, some from Tennessee, have applied for admission to these classes.
Governor Foss denies authorizing Mayor Fitzgerald or anyone to propose to Hyde Park strikers that a return to work would lead to individual grievance adjustments. If no settlement occurs a public hearing will be held by the State Board of Conciliation and Arbitration.
Mayor Fitzgerald intends to press Governor Foss for a definite written settlement proposal for Hyde Park strikers after a City Hall meeting with Central Labor Union President Moriarty and striker delegates. Foss’s statement reiterates the Aug. 7 offer and outlines the existing terms, distribution of jobs, and priority for returning workers, with 700 employees already at work.

One is deemed impossible, six stubborn. Most pupils, once stutterers, have received 40 to 50 lessons and need only a few months more.
