Ex-Gov. Lind will depart the Mexican capital today as Huerta and U S lawmakers gather at the White House in a show of government not recognized by Washington. Senators and congressmen discussed the political stalemate and potential foreign policy shifts.
Jerome arrives in Sherbrooke and Thaw lawyers shift strategy to test treaty rights and the constitutionality of the immigration act in Canada. They argue American citizen status blocks deportation and may seek Privy Council review while pursuing extradition from Vermont to New York.
Colonel Roosevelt arrives in Chicago and spends two hours before departing by Pennsylvania for Oyster Bay. He sails for South America on Oct. 4. At the Santa Fe station he is greeted by Thomas D. Professor William R. Arnold of Andover Divinity School at Harvard blocks construction on the corner of Kirkland street and Frisbie place in Cambridge claiming ownership. The interruption stops a planned showpiece building for the university and Arnold has not disclosed his reasons.
The cornerstone for a museum designed by a leading German architect and intended as the finest German building outside Germany was laid last June. Construction was to begin then but details remain unclear.
In Spencer Maine Aug 25 Artist Knowles known as the Man of the Woods narrowly escaped a pit trap for a bear. Friends prepare an immediate search if his birch bark messages fail to arrive. A bloodhound is ready for instant service to trace him to the cache and lead rescuers to the cave man.
Dangers facing Knowles as he nears the Pole lead E. L. Howard, a U S Bureau of Pensions examiner, to offer his bloodhound for the search. Howard, headquartered in Portland, Maine, travels Maine calling in his dog if Knowles misses the schedule.
President Wilson read to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee a message on the Mexican situation. The message advocates friendship and absolute non interference, signaling U S sympathy for Mexico. It was met with near unanimous approval.
President Wilson outlines U S policy opposing Huerta rule in Mexico and refuses recognition. He cites Hayes Diaz precedent and presents Lind mediated efforts with Huerta. Huerta notes exchanged in tonight's conference are read, urging a constitutional election without Huerta as candidate.
