Tragic Quarry Swim Ends in Drowning for Gray and Season’s Fatal Dangers
Gray died in an old quarry hole that locals in Quincy call a death trap. The 70 foot deep water and treacherous currents reportedly claimed multiple lives this season. Gray and his companions had gone for a Sunday swim after dinner. he could swim only about 50 yards and disappeared after stepping from a narrow shelf into deep water during a ten minute struggle. Gray, an Irish immigrant, worked at Fore River yards and has relatives in Roxbury and Boston Elevated.

College man drowns after cramp attack at Kreenh
Leonard E. Mason a Carnegie Institute sophomore was found drowned after being attacked by cramps while swimming at Kreenh New Hampshire on August 24. The accident occurred while he struggled to reach shore and friends reported the incident to local authorities.
Salem Man Drowned in Harbor Foot of LaGrange
The body of Lieutenant James W. Nichols, 81, a longtime Salem resident and prominent G. A. R. figure, was found in Salem harbor at the foot of LaGrange street. Ill in health, he wandered from home in scant attire. He helped form the Minute Men of ’61 and served through the Civil War. He recently marked the 52nd anniversary of his marriage and leaves a wife and four children.

Linton Indiana August 24 Joseph Fisher said to be 107 years old and to have cast his first vote for Andrew Jackson passed through town in a wagon on his way to Bedford to make his future home.
