Auto Bandits Rob Home In Hyannisport Heist

Police from town county and state pursue a four man gang suspected in a string of Cape Cod robberies. They used an automobile to flee after looting W H Stevens home of 1600 in cash and jewels. A maid witnessing the scene described the men but was too frightened to give details.

Society man charged in $50,000 gem theft case

Atlantic City, Aug 24. Harry E. Simonin a society man and social high wayman, was arrested in a bathing suit at the surf at Virginia avenue. Police say the jewel thefts total about $50,000 and William Oliver of Philadelphia identified the suspect. Detective bureau officers under Captain Whalen took him into custody.

Suspect Simonin Haunts Newport Area as Police Seek Diamonds

Detectives pursue 24 year old Simonin thought to have fled to 207 Madison Avenue after inheriting 30000 dollars and spending it quickly. He is tied to a Philadelphia incident and is suspected in jewel thefts at Narragansett Pier Washington Baltimore and Philadelphia as police recover 15 pawn tickets. Oliver aided by detectives located him at the Dunlop Hotel and in the surf recently.

Street Cars Collide on Hill injuring many

Motorman Lewis Gaines observed the ves tibule of the second car as its tram halted on a hill. His vehicle then, moving at high speed, blew a fuse when he tried the emergency brake and crashed into the forward car with tremendous force.

Massive streetcar collision injures many in city

After a tangle of wrecked cars and flying timber, motorman Gaines suffered serious head injuries and was believed to have a fractured skull. Conductor Hickey aided victims, while ambulances conveyed the seriously hurt to City Hospital. Dozens more were bruised or shaken, with Mrs. Burke and her children among the injured.

Man Wanted Kills Leader of Lynchers

Maillard Mastin shot and killed William Dayton, a leader of a mob that tried to hang him after his acquittal. The mob burst into Mastin's Mt Olivet home. Mastin fired with a shotgun, the shot striking Dayton in the breast and killing him instantly. Mastin was brought to Maysville for safekeeping.

Priest in Line for Charlestown Prison Chaplain Post

It was learned in Charlestown last night that Rev. Michael J. Murphy Catholic chaplain at the prison is being seriously considered to replace Chaplain Herbert W. Stebbins. He is expected to be appointed chaplain and librarian of Charlestown State prison soon.

Father Murphy Appointed Chaplain of State Prison

The new position carries a salary of $2000 per year and Father Murphy will be the first Catholic priest to be chaplain of the State prison. The Rev. George A. Crawford remains acting minister. Murphy, 29, Brockton born, has served two years at the prison and is highly popular with inmates, officials, and the press. He secured privileges for prisoners, including holiday smoking, and is a curate at St. Mary's Charlestown and Hamilton Court chaplain of M. Co. O. F. in Charlestown.

About 400 midshipmen completed their annual summer practice cruise along the New England coast. The ships of Rear Admiral Badger's division of the North Atlantic squadron anchored off Annapolis, Md., tonight.
