Quiet Week Ends With Easy Money Market Conditions

The week closes with a quiet but easy money market. Loanable funds are ample with low rates and acceptable security. Call loans secured at 2 to 2 1/2 percent, savings banks and trusts lending short term. Corporation paper scarce. prime mercantile paper 3 to 4 percent with higher rates not in demand. Clearing house totals show $10,021,807 in daily exchanges and $1,705,643 balances. weekly clearings $64,005,802 with $3,283,108 balances.

Financial and commodity markets across London and Liverpool

London financial markets show Consols at 106 1-16 and various US and Canadian bonds with mixed results. In commodities, wheat movement is slow with a steady corn market. Liverpool prices track wheat lower, with winter and spring wheat quiet and corn and peas firming slightly with beef and cheese prices noted.

Market Notes: Wheat Leads Decline as Corn Follows

Eldredge and Co report wheat demand collapsing from open as long holders capitulate and shorts cover briefly. Prices slid to near day’s low by 1 P M with a 24 cent drop from opening. Corn followed the weak wheat, weather on the corn belt favorable and receipts heavy. Provisions held steady while overall market interest centered on grain.

Superior Court Convicts Webb in Larceny Case. Others Dismissed

In the August session Judge Rockwell convicts Walter A. Webster of larceny for trunks taken from Fitchburg railroad and sentences him to three years at the Massachusetts reformatory. Sanborn jurors disagree. Perkins case for forged tickets not pressed. Term adjourned. next term September 7.
