Mrs Sarah Wilson of Bradford was thrown from her carriage near Phenix Friday evening and sustained probably fatal injuries. The sixth annual Clark family reunion occurred at Alonzo Clark’s Tilton New Hampshire with about 200 attendees, a record turnout.

Daniels appeared with blue eyes and fair skin despite a prior stain. Stewart awaited her release at the prison.
General B F Butler of Massachusetts arrived in Newport and joined Wm Harris of Providence to confer with Judge Bradley and other leaders on Block Island. A prominent Democrat said the gathering would address political matters with a likely major outcome. Butler’s party then left for Block Island aboard the George W Danielson while a steamer was kept on hand to bring back participants later. Correspondent notes the meeting is shielded from press access.
Sheriff Werkinger of York county with Detective Still of York arrested Hirsin Frantz in Midetown on a highway robbery charge. Frantz broke away and fled when Still fired, striking him in the groin and fatally wounding him. The shooting sparked excitement among mill workers who threatened to lynch the officer as he fled.
John Beancleigh alias Johnny the Snake a nationally known confidence man was found guilty this morning of beating a railway passenger on the Missouri Pacific two years ago and was sentenced to two years in the penitentiary Crooks in the east and in Canada allegedly sent money to aid his defense in St Louis Missouri on August 14.
A week of heavy rains caused the Pemigewasset valley freshet with river rises peaking in New Hampshire. Bridges and fences washed away, crops ruined, rail lines flooded, and trains cancelled or rerouted. Similar floods hit New York and Pennsylvania communities with extensive crop and property damage and road washouts.
Cincinnati dispatch reports a Washington special claiming William B Fleming of Covington was the target of a caustic Cleveland letter. It now states there is no Fleming in Covington. Gen John W Finnell identifies the appointee as a Louisville resident elevated to a New Mexico judgeship late in July and expresses no regret at the recommendation.
The president acknowledges obligations to all who conducted Gen. Ulysses S. Grant’s remains from Mt. McGregor to Albany, to New York City, and to Riverside Park where the tomb was prepared by New York officials. The thanks extend to all who assisted in the Saturday August 8 funeral ceremonies and the solemnities surrounding the interment.
A Forepaugh circus train collision near Eddyville Iowa damaged the baggage section and sleepers. Injured include Frank Boyd and Maxey with broken limbs, August Smith, Mike Welch with head injuries, Sid Euson cut to the skull, plus others. The Detroit with 60 men overturned. dogs in cages were killed. horses and m ence no fatality among animals. Medical teams from Eddyville Ottumwa tend the injured. Davenport hospital to receive the gravest cases.
Coroner Beale of Camden reports an 18 year old Irish domestic, Margaret Kealey, died near Philadelphia after sudden illness while living with farmer Edward Hunt at White Horse. Physicians deem the death cholera, linked to Asiatic cholera. inquiry teams probe source and spread as authorities disinfect the site and await test results.
Northfield Mass August 14 Moody’s convention of Christian workers closed after a 10 day session. Morning meetings at Mt Hermon school for boys featured 10 minute talks by Drs Pierson Gordon and Wayland plus Hiram Camp who gave 25000 dollars for the school. An appeal was made for 5000 dollars to build a house for a monthly clergy lecture. An organ was promised to Rev G Freshman of the Hebrew Christian church in New York. The afternoon discussed The Resurrection with Drs Gordon Parson Erdman. The farewell evening finished the meeting and another may be held next year. The assembly adopted a universal appeal for daily prayers for Holy Spirit power upon ministers and workers worldwide.
Governor Ireland issues a proclamation ordering quarantine against Mexico due to yellow fever risks from Vera Cruz and other Mexican locales. Quarantine stations will be set at Laredo and El Paso with inspections of incoming trains and passenger passports. Citizens are urged to assist officers and comply with penalties for violations.
James Hennessy, night watchman for Peck Stowe Wilcox in Birmingham, detected no water in boilers as the engineer tried to start the engine. He raised the alarm, sparing about 50 workers from potential disaster and preventing catastrophic boiler pressure.
Hartrorp Conn August 14 William C Crandall four months imprisonment at Lowell Mass for base desertion of wife and child in a Boston hotel and failing to aid them. He is guilty of forgery and swindling in this state and Massachusetts and recently engaged to marry a girl in Indiana, swindling her father with forged letters of recommendation using names of eastern men. He was jailed in Palmer Mass for fraud. victims can find him in Lowell now.
ChicaGo Aug 14 The Grand Trunk railway notifies connections at Detroit Port Huron and west that it is prepared to deliver air shipments to the West Shore route. Official announcement confirms conciliating arrangements between the two roads formed over several days. East bound freight rates are believed to have bottomed with further grain and provisions cuts to 14 and 1 half cents to New York, totaling 4 and 7 eighths cents from regular tariff.
Miss Adrienna Physick Brinckle, once a famed New York belle, has been released from the state lunatic asylum in Harrisburg after 27 years on an eccentricity charge. Her family, social circles, and longtime custodian helped secure her freedom. Preliminary work in Rockport Massachusetts progresses on the harbor of refuge directed by Chief Engineer Raymond and Assistant Engineer Haagenson. The first pier will rise on Avery's rock with an iron frame of 40 tons in Duune pattern, forming a 30 by 30 foot stone and concrete tower about 15 feet above high tide. Six spars anchored to rocks will guide the frame as it is bolted to the ledge, then filled with rubble and cement to form a solid mass ready for completion.
Nantasket Beach hosts day six of the great band festival with large attendance. Hartford Colts Armory band opens at o'clock under W C Spary, followed by Chandler's and Reeves's bands from Portland and local groups. The lineup features Wagner and Dodworth pieces, concertos, solos, cannon accompaniment, and a grand Star Spangled Banner close. Anticipation grows for Sunday solos and a 155‑musician monster band formed by consolidation.
Since buying Oak Island in 1832, John C. Miller expanded the hotel and stable, added a station on the Eastern railroad, two bowling alleys, a museum, skating rink, dance hall, numerous booths, and a large illuminated grounds. Concerts, regular railroad stops, and leagues drawn by Brown's Brigade band boosted patronage while strict order kept patrons orderly. A Portland man calling himself Walter W Wanzer Jr swindled Sandy River National Bank Farmington Me out of 5000 via a forged certificate of deposit from National Exchange Bank Boston He deposited funds in Exchange Bank Boston to be sent to Farmington for withdrawal and used a telegraphic ruse to cash a later check Wanzer vanished after Farmington paid the check Telegraphs showed the Exchange Bank knew nothing of him and a staged message from Portland aided the fraud with careful crafting of the telegram minutes before the scam unravelled
Fire commissioners filled the vacancy caused by Cunningham| appointing Capt John A Mullen of engine 15 to district 6 with Abbott transferring to district 3. Mullen, 35, born in South Boston, joined June 12, 1874 and rose to foreman of engine 15 by 1881. Abbott, born in Maine, has led South Boston district since 1882 after earlier service as ladderman and foreman.
In Boston and Vicinity an alarm from box 345 at 9 55 PM Friday started a blaze in rubbish in a Dorchester old cellar on Marsh street with no damage. At 4 30 PM Friday youths set rubbish on rear of M E Sullivan's No 7 Middlesex street, extinguished without alarm and minor damage. At 6 20 PM Friday sparks from a chimney ignited roof at No 3 Orange lane, extinguished by Protective No 2 without an alarm.

About 11 30 P M Friday Joseph H Alvis 63 partially demented and living at 16 Fleet Street fell or jumped from Warren bridge and was rescued from drowning by Charles Lang mate of the schooner Joseph Wellington and Patrolman Donerty of station 13 He was taken to station 15 and police were notified to hunt his people at 1 Fleet Street but no such resident is found He will be kept at station 15 until claimed by friends.
A large meeting of the Boston Eight Infantry Veteran corps convened at the armory Boylston ball on Friday evening. Reports came from many organizations and the Old Tigers plan a large delegation to the veteran corps convention at Rocky Point on August 17. The Tigers escorted the veterans after their return Tuesday night, but the offer was declined due to lateness.
