Charles Harrington Dies at 82 Once Large New England Leather Dealer
Salem Aug 15 Charles Harrington once the region’s largest leather dealer died today at age 82 after years of ill health. Born in Salem he learned the trade at 17 and later ran his own businesses. He led Salem Peabody factories during the 1886 leather strike and served years as president of the Mercantile Bank. He belonged to Essex Masons Fraternity Odd Fellows and the First Universalist parish. He leaves a family.

Robert Burt, 24, colored, of 19 Porter Street, is at City Hospital with a four inch cut on the left neck after a razor assault near Pleasant Street and Shawmut Avenue at about 8:30 last night. The attacker, a unknown colored man, fled. Burt and a companion were talking to Berné Miner at 21 Melrose Street when the incident occurred. Burt was taken to Station 4 and then to the hospital.

At about 9 30 p m a blaze was discovered in the large connecting stables of James Chambers on Foster street Melrose. Nine horses were in the buildings three saved six killed. Four express wagons and numerous harnesses and loads of express matter destroyed. Losses set at 3000 on the buildings 6000 on property of Chambers with hay and other materials also burned.
