In Springfield on April 28 Joseph Walker of Massachusetts delivered the principal address at the Illinois Progressive State conference. The event opened that day and will close with a rally at the State arsenal featuring Albert J. Beveridge and W. R. Stubbs. Walker attacked the invisible government as eroding confidence in representatives and the system. A state-wide conference of party workers convened at a local hotel that afternoon.

Control of railroads hangs fire

An attempt to fix the Public Service Commission bill to control railroads failed in an executive session of the railroads and ways and means committees. Washburn of Worcester, who altered his position after disclosures about the New Haven at a hearing by Interstate Commerce Commissioner Prouty, urged immediate action on the bill minus Sections 15 and 16 which ease securities issues and funding for the New Haven.
