Scythia Arrives in Boston After Three Day Delay

In heavy gales the Cunard steamer Scythia with Captain George Campbell from Liverpool and Queenstown arrived at East Boston at 7 30 am yesterday, nearly three days overdue. The worst weather struck Saturday April 9 with hurricane force winds and high seas. A gigantic wave damaged deck fittings and the steerage hatch, scattering 488 steerage passengers. No injuries were reported as the crew replaced the hatch and lifeboat. The ship’s pace briefly reversed, then logged sixty nine miles in the twenty four hours. The Scythia carried two cabins, thirty six second cabin and 488 steerage passengers.
