Vessels aided by cutters in a harsh New England winter

The revenue cutters Woodbury Androscoggin Itasca and Acushnet aided 33 distressed coasters carrying hundreds of people and valued at 1.5 million dollars. Between Portland and Calais they logged 17 900 miles of cruising in four months ending April 1, rescuing vessels from Cape Small Point to Nantucket Shoals and earning thanks from skippers and shore observers.

Reception Honoring Dr and Mrs Dyer Planned by Boston Group

A reception in appreciation of Dr Franklin B Dyer superintendent of Boston public schools will be held Friday evening in the Girls Latin School assembly hall Huntington avenue by the Boston Home and School Association. Mayor Fitzgerald school committee board of superintendents and educators will attend with many school masters acting as hosts. The arrangements committee includes Mrs William N Irving chairman and several trustees and officers of the association.

Two-Alarm Fire Damages Portsmouth Tea and Coffee Company

A two-alarm blaze in Portsmouth on Market Street caused about 4000 dollars in losses at the Co-oper ative Tea and Coffee Company. Fire spread before discovery by police, with extensive smoke and water damage to the fruit store of Arthur Dedes and the fish market of Edward S. Downs on the street level.
