Failure of Reece invention nets vast fortunes and tragedy
Success and his invention filled his coffers with over 100000 dollars last year from the machine and about 50000 more from real estate in the South End and Roxbury. He leaves a widow and four children, the eldest 12, and his Brookline home is famed for beauty. His wife was Miss Shea of South Boston and his brother-in-law George Shea held a major post at the buttonhole company that Reece largely owned. He recently completed a new building on Harrison Avenue worth about 200000 dollars where he was killed, and Reed block work has been halted following the fatal incident.

NO APRIL FOOL FIRE IN CAMBRIDGE APARTMENT
A Cambridge apartment house on Ellery Street owned by Charles H Thurston burned on April Fool Day causing about 7000 in damage. Smoke appeared from windows as bystanders laughed at the supposed joke. Firefighters struggled to control the blaze fed by an elevator shaft draft. The origin was an ice chest near the elevator well on the second story. If six hours earlier the fire began, many residents might not have survived.
