Banks Offer Aid to Belfast Savings Bank in Liquidation

Belfast Maine March 31 Commercial banks of this city have offered to help Bank Commissioner Fred F. Lawrence straighten out the Belfast Savings Bank which closed its doors last Wednesday The National City Bank would assume liabilities and assets with no liquidation delay If accepted depositors will likely receive 109 cents on the dollar through plans backed by local business and financial interests Heavy railroad stock and low bond values contributed to the trouble prompting the Trustees to close the bank and protect interest payments Depositors numbering about 38761 are being aided by the National and Waldo Trusts through loans on the bricks.
