Death of Wells County pioneer O F Sutton

After years of suffering Oscar F Sutton one of Wells countys oldest residents died Monday evening at four oclock He was born November 17 1822 in Licking County Ohio married July 8 1849 to Margaret Jane Daily and had eight children His life included service as county assessor postmaster at Murray and leader of the Sutton family reunion Funeral services will be Thursday at one oclock meet at John McVague home and proceed to Murray Rev Lester String and Miller will officiate with burial in Murray cemetery Nearby visits note continued social activity of local residents

John Cowan cut his foot with an ax last Tuesday, suffering two gashes and a temporary layoff. Linn Grove high school hosts a box social next Saturday with prizes for top entries and a fishing pond attraction. L D Miller has barn painting done by John Snyder of Geneva. Salem church to add east and west porches

Farmers busy with corn harvest and property moves highlight the Salem area. Henry French will relocate from the Walser farm bought last spring while the Salem congregation plans a horse shed at the church. Isaac Joury builds a new barn. Old People's Day Observed at Uniondale M E Church

Uniondale October 25 1903 attendees aged fifty and over gathered for Old People's Day at the M E church led by Rev Osbun. A discourse followed a collection for superannuated ministers. The oldest participant was Mrs Jacob Biel aged 83 years nine months and one day.

Platt Family Reunion Honors Emanuel Platt's 56th Birthday

Oil man injured as horse runs away near Poneto

Jesse Herman of Derrick Notting ham township drove a colt when the horse frightened at a field of other horses. The animal bolted across a ditch jumped a wire fence and threw him headfirst onto the road. He lay unconscious for an hour before being moved to Poneto. Dr. A Shoemaker treated bruises and he was expected to recover in a few days.

Well on R upright farm near Tovsin to be shot tomorrow

Gas flow and signs of oil at the well indicate a test shot of two hundred quarts tomorrow morning near the R upright farm, with locals in Kingsland and nearby vicinity watching to see which area is nearer the old best. Mrs Inabelle Diffenderfer returns home to Fort Wayne after visiting Bluffton relatives.
