Mrs. Alice Reed Dead After Illness in Lancaster Township
Mrs. Alice Reed of Lancaster Township died at 3 o'clock one morning after a two week illness judged to be stomach trouble. Born July 11, 1859, she resided in the township most of her life, married to Andrew Reed on December 21, 1884, and left 76 children, Harry and Carrie among them. She is survived by her father Robert Souders Sr and a brother Thomas Souders. She was active in the Rathbone Sisters and funeral services were held at the Methodist church with Rev. L. A. Beeks officiating, burial at Him Grove Cemetery.

Henry Schaufter died Tuesday at 10 a.m. at his daughter Louise’s Bluffton home after long illness. Born May 1 1818 in Switzerland, he immigrated to Vera Cruz, built a cabinet making career, and retired two years ago. He leaves twelve children including John Charles Amy Louise of Bluffton, Mary Gracy of Missouri, Susan Girardin of Ossian, plus twenty one grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. The German Reformed church at Vera Cruz will conduct the funeral on Thursday October 27 with interment in the churchyard cemetery. He was respected for integrity and a long, valuable life.

Was Not Jumping Trains In Fatal Erie Crash
Evidence shows Homer Robinson, killed by an Erie freight at Markle, was not attempting to hop trains. He worked husking corn, left field for a meal, and was struck on the siding by a freight. Robinson died after surgery in Huntington following a brief rally.

County surveyor's office hosts final gravel road reports
County surveyor's office was filled Tuesday at 4 p.m. with viewers presenting final reports on several gravel roads slated for sale early in the spring. No more roads will be sold this winter as contractors could not complete work even if awards were made.
Rural Route Plans Spread Across Wells County
Postmaster Sharpe announced from Washington that rural route plans for Wells County have been ordered. Rural route superintendent Hutches is expected to arrive soon to start three to four routes from Bluffton and additional routes in smaller towns.
