City ministers greet lecture course ticket sales rise

Bluffton reports strong demand for an upcoming lecture series. Five lectures comprise the course with season tickets at one dollar fifty cents each. Profits will rebate to season ticket holders, reducing the cost per hearing. Rev J H String sold eighty tickets by 11 am while others also report solid sales. Special rates for schoolchildren apply. Tickets can be subscribed at the office or paid later at Snyder shoe store. Lectures will be at the Baptist church and the program is described as one of Bluffton’s best.

West Washington Street Macadam Nears Completion

The Bluffton project for West Washington street is rapidly progressing and the Hoosier Construction company will finish within the week marking the end of their local work. East Washington street also recently finished, with residents proud of the improved thoroughfare after a long wait.

State health bulletin shows improved statewide deaths rate

The September health board bulletin notes 2658 deaths, rate 12.2, down from 2766 and 13.4 last year. City rate 15.7 vs 16.4 in 1908, country districts 10.8. Major causes include tuberculosis 331, diarrhoeal diseases 319, typhoid 137, pneumonia 73, smallpox 12, with 146 deaths by violence. Fifty counties have lower than state average. Overall, progress from ongoing health campaigns.

Fred Haag, previously confined to his home with several broken ribs, has recovered enough to be out and around the street. He recently fell on stair steps, injuring his side supports, leaving him pale but hopeful to return to work soon.

Convention Opens at Portland for Northern Indiana W H M S

The twenty first annual session of the Northern Indiana conference of the Woman s Home Missionary society began today in Portland with hundreds of delegates. Special railroad rates boosted attendance with Bluffton riders paying eighty five cents round trip. Sessions run through Friday noon under Presiding Elder C A Wade and other noted speakers from Fort Wayne district. Officers to be elected and next meeting place chosen on Friday morning.

A gathering of relatives and friends with filled baskets marked a birthday anniversary for Mrs Fay at the home of Miss Peter Faylor in Lancaster township. Peculiar Attraction Promises Money by Key Giveaway

A traveling man in the city advertised a box of cash he carried in a glass case. Shown in a store window, the scheme offered a free key with purchases and a single correct key to win the money. He would not reveal the amount, citing risk of theft. The window was later broken and the money vanished.

Ashton Suedied in Court Again Over Debts and Foreclosure

In court today Eich horn and Matlack for Brunswick Blake Collender filed suit to collect 625 dollars plus attorneys fees and foreclose a mechanic's lien. Ed Wingfield is a party defendant due to a claimed junior mortgage of 300 dollars. Ashton, once owner of the Manhattan Cafe, bought furniture in Chicago for his saloon, paid 400 down and issued notes. payments ceased last June and no further payments have been made.

Masonic Lodge Hosts Visiting Brethren In Evening Program

The Montpelier and Ford City lodges hosted about sixty attendees including three candidates J W Kramer Clem T Kain and Ralph Thomas. Indictment Expected Friday In County Legal Probe

A Hartford City grand jury spent the day examining the county poor farm and the jail. They prepare to report and return indictments Friday. Prosecutor Burns said the Krauss case is under investigation with others and no hearing date has been set. Judge Vaughn ordered the jury to report again in the morning as they tackle numerous cases in a crowded term.
