G R I Railway Wins Back Pay From Congress
The G R I railway received 25039 dollars from Congress after a Court of Claims ruling had allowed 9985 dollars for back pay. The claim covered mail transportation from Fort Wayne to Michigan via a land grant road between 1876 and 1896. The United States post office had rated it at eighty percent of the statutory mail transport price, and the road’s transfer to Pennsylvania prompted a review of the land grant status and prior claims barred by statute.
