Chamber backs cut in VA hospital construction effort
The Montana Chamber of Commerce endorsed Truman administration plans to reduce unneeded VA hospital construction. The study The Case of the 16,000 Unneeded VA Hospital Beds argues the 16,000 bed cut saves $279 million in construction and $70 million annually in operating costs, while noting shorter bed counts and staff shortages and higher VA costs per bed compared with non federal hospitals.
