Washington declares that the first marine division endured more than 39 percent casualties in its desperate yet successful breakout fight. The announcement outlines heavy losses as Marines pressed a hard fought offensive to break out.
The report indicates a Chinese trap in Korea could yield 6 000 to 7 000 casualties across three infantry regiments of a division though the marine corps did not confirm figures. Frost bite casualties are included in the tally.
