The Duluth district set a new April ore movement record as spring arrived early allowing navigation on Lake Superior. A total of 973,335 tons were loaded in April, with Two Harbors shipping 443,929 tons, Duluth 314,409 tons, and Superior 215,000 tons. Last year had negligible volume and April 1900 saw only 25,000 tons.

Pickands-Mather & Co of Cleveland and Youngstown Iron Co of Youngstown Ohio are purchasing Mesaba range iron properties. They closed on Pitt Mining Co with sections 2 and 34 57-21, adjoining Mahoning mine. The $160000 cash deal includes a 20 cent per ton royalty on 50,000 minimum annual output, with a sliding rate for higher production. The firm plans immediate development after prior exploration. FY Hager and Gust Alquist were in the city on Monday. A grand ball by the Four Leaf Social Club at the opera house Friday May 23. First skating party by the club last week with Finnish band. C&NW announces first excursion to St Paul and Minneapolis today. Fare from Bessemer and return is $2.75.
Ironwood High defeated Bessemer High 13 to 5 at Ironwood last Saturday. A return game was planned for Saturday on the home grounds. Bessemer lost 15 to 14 in a Sunday contest at Ironwood, and the teams prepared for another Sunday matchup with Hurley Colts as each side had one win. A previous Sunday game saw Ironwood win 8 to 7 on the home ground amid even effort from both sides.
Evereth Minnesota plans a weekly paper titled the Evereth Mining News Copperwull Garrett publishers. Commentary lauds Hon H O Young and predicts Schoolcraft aligned for the upcoming convention. Broad support cited from multiple counties as encouraging.
