UP highway engineers back priority for M-38 and key routes
Nearly 300 attendees from 14 Upper Peninsula counties adopted a program to accelerate road improvements. M-28 will be tackled first, followed by M-94, M-95 and US routes 45 and 141 as funds allow, with bridges at the Straits of Mackinac and Portage Lake noted. Louis W. Nims presided, and James E. Fire Claims Mother and Young Son in Rural Michigan Blaze
A Marenigco mother Bi Poa Petrovich aged 17 and her nine month old son Mem were burned to death when their home on M-64 two miles south of the Village burned Wednesday at 4 80. Son Robert Petrovich survived exposure and was taken to Wakefield hospital. Father Nick Petrovich worked as a night firefighter at Bou itan mill and was away when the fire began.

A Democrat candidate for re election with no opposition, Holappa served two years and was born in Ironwood in 1903. Funeral Today for Ontonagon Pioneer Joseph Stevens
Joseph Stevens 73, a retired miner and Mass mine veteran, died Tuesday night in Ontonagon. A pioneer worker, he moved to Bessemer in 1923 to mine until 1934 before returning home. Survived by a daughter Mrs. Henry Johnson of Alpena, a stepdaughter Mrs. Joan Kinps of Ontonagon, three brothers and three sisters. Burial services set for Friday in Beasemet.
