Michigan considers new auto ferry link between peninsulas
The Michigan Economic Development Commission backed a 10 point unification plan for the Upper and Lower Peninsulas after a Feb 25 Marquette meeting. A key proposal calls for faster auto ferry service across the Straits plus a possible Frankfort to Menominee route to cut 150 miles in cross peninsular trips.

A. D. Johnston High School is among 215 Michigan schools in Michigan High School Forensic Association events. The association, part of the University of Michigan Extension Service, sponsors oratory declamation and extempore speaking contests. Local contests run before March 19, with district winners by April 16 and regional contests by May 14. District winners receive a Webster's Dictionary. regional winners get a University of Michigan Extension banner. no state contest exists.

Last Rites for Mrs Sofia Rajala
Funeral services for the late Mrs Sofia Rajala 86 will be held Friday at 1 p m at Moore Funeral home. Rev Jacob Hirvi will officiate Burial will be in Hillcrest cemetery. She was born January 22 1882 in Finland and came to the United States in 1900. Her husband died in 1912 and she had no known survivors. She had lived in Anvil and then on Old County road. She had been at Grand View hospital two months.

Paving bids called for US 2 expansion near Wakefield
Three miles of new concrete pavement from Wakefield toward Bessemer and one and a half miles of grading and pavement from the new US 2 location will be built next summer. Bids must be in the state highway office at Escanaba by March 9. The Lutheran guild meeting at St. Pauls Evangelical Lutheran church is set for Monday at 8 pm with hostesses Mrs. Mae Ross and Mrs. Norman Lind.

Michigan Bell announces Watersmeet will replace present dial service with a newer larger type as part of the 1948 construction program. Installation of new switching equipment costs 9000 dollars, plus 6000 dollars for outside plant material. System to operate is planned for early summer serving 140 customers.
