David T. Hayvala, 65, longtime area pioneer, died at his home 106 West Longyear Street at 7 30 p m Sunday after a paralytic stroke two weeks earlier Born in Lieva Oulu Finland on October 20 1882 he came to the United States in 1898 settling in Ironwood for a year He then moved to Bessemer in 1899 and lived there except for extended trips to Detroit He married Ida Leppala in Ironwood in June 1905 Surviving are his wife three daughters one son three grandchildren and other relatives in Finland The son Roy and two daughters Gertrude Hayvala and Mrs Ray mond Van Ittersum reside in Detroit another daughter Mrs Jack Tuten lives in Santa Monica California
