Health Dept Names Holman Inspector for Summer Resorts
Ben Holman, an industrial arts teacher at Calumet High School, is hired by the Michigan Department of Health as a summer sanitarian. He begins June 24 from the Escanaba branch, inspecting Gogebic and Marquette County resorts, camps, and similar businesses. He will advise on water, sewage, sanitation and HDA sign program questions. HDA signs are awarded to resorts meeting sanitation standards. over 2,000 Michigan resorts display them.

Funeral services for Mrs Alice Retallic formerly of Amasa were held in Ironwood with committal at Riverside Cemetery. Born 1897 in Wisconsin she moved to Bessemer in 1936 and later to Saratoga California to live with her son in law. Survived by daughter and two grandchildren.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars and auxiliaries will host a fall rally in Ironwood in September with Bes semer Wakefield and Ironwood as hosts. Auxiliary members will assist fund raising for the clubhouse remodeling. Delegates and alternates to the National Encampment in Florida were named. A bake sale Sunday June 28 at Michela Company store on S&S Sophie St is sponsored by the St Sebastian Ladies Guild.

Leo Carpenedo, 48, of this city, suffered first and second degree burns to head and neck while working at the Gogebic County Highway Department Asphalt plant. He was taken to Grand View Hospital in serious condition after pressure in a hot asphalt tank caused spray through a breather cap.

Posthumous Valor Awards For Michigan State Police
At a ceremony in East Lansing Governor Williams awarded posthumous valor medals to the wives of two Flint post troopers and to Corporal Vesey for actions at a Clio family call where a gunman died weeks later. Troopers Jones and Luckey also received bravery medals. three meritorious service awards were given to Troopers Dean Lenoun and Kill. The event accompanied graduation for 62 recruits and featured benediction by Rev. Tom Drengacz.

Change Opening Date Of Fall Court Term In Gogebic County
