Steiger Little League Field in Bessemer hosts a district tournament with nine teams entered including Rhinelander Escanaba Black River Falls and Wausau with Ironwood and Marquette debuting. The event runs July 26 27 and 28 with Bessemer’s squad led by Grant Leeke Tom Manninen Matt Rooker Don Erickson Tony Plesh Larry Skwor Tom Scholar Byron Mattson Charles Weimeri Dick McDermott Robert Nyman Edward Rickard Louis Marconeri and Tom Makinen. Lt. (jg) Joel W. Schmidt, son of Mr and Mrs A W Schmidt, completed three years active service in the U S Navy on June 22 and enters ready reserve. A Johnstone High School and University of Michigan alumnus, he earned a Bachelor of Banking Arts with banking and accounting majors. He served on USS Malabar until Sept 1955 and later as disbursing officer on USS O Hare DDR 89 until his June discharge. he plans a banking career after vacation with his parents.

A family reunion at the Albert Marzari home on Sunday drew 38 attendees with 16 absent. The largest group was Mr. and Mrs. Louis Facchinello and their children with spouses and grandchildren, including Emmanuel, Eugene, Eddie, and Alfred Facchinello, plus Timmy. Guests enjoyed outdoor buffet refreshments and children plus adults played baseball and games. Speed Boys Win Fourth In A Row
The Bessemer Speed Boy baseballers earned their fourth straight win last Thursday night against Wakefield at Messie Field. Jim Seeke pitched a one hit six innings while Dave Cyvengres of Wakefield allowed three. Corsiat was hit by a pitch to start a second inning scoring sequence for Bessemer, as Sparapani and Weimers drew walks and Voss sacrificed them home. Wakefield rallied with two runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to take a 4 3 lead before Seeke and teammates answered with late plays.
