Hellman and Fiori won the school board race with 206 and 206 votes respectively for three-year terms ending June 30 1970. Opponents Joseph E Janev and John A Mussatti failed with 140 and 40 votes. Incumbent Carl R Martinson declined reelection.
Mrs Anne Stevens ends 15 years of service at the Bessemer Public Library as a farewell gathering features gifts from Mrs John Sartoris and praise from Mrs Dominic Pitrone. A five member Has-Beens band performs with local staff. Finnish American Festival plans Mid-Summer events and tours, concerts, a tea, coffee socials, and a Wakefield Eddy Park close.
John W. Erickson age 66 of South Bessemer died on arrival Tuesday at Divine Infant Hospital Wakefield He was born April 21 1901 son of the late Mr and Mrs Fred Erickson He lived and worked in local mines retiring in 1961 He belonged to Sharon Lutheran Church He married Ina J Nyman August 11 1926 Survived by wife two sons Jack Minneapolis James Rockford Ill two daughters Don Neippetter Wilmette Ill and Wayne Saari Menominee Falls Wis five grandchildren one brother Edwin L Erickson South Bessemer two sisters Mrs Lloyd Ronn Duluth and Mrs James Bradshaw Chicago Preceded in death by three sisters May 1953 November 1953 February 1964 Funeral Friday at 2 pm Sharon Lutheran Church Rev C Raymond Holmes officiating Burial Hillcrest Cemetery.
Raymond Skwor of this city was reappointed a member of the Gogebic County Forestry Commission at the 9 meeting Wednesday morning of the Gogebic County Board of Supervisors. Skwor’s term would have expired June 30. He has served on the commission since 1951. Board members voted to contribute 25 from the Board of Supervisors fund to help finance the National Association of Counties convention in Michigan at a future date. Permission was granted for County Treasurer Louis A. Filippini and Sheriff Chester J. Prebish to attend separate Michigan conventions. Filippini will attend the Michigan County Treasurer’s Association convention at Mackinac Island August 10–12. Sheriff Prebish will attend the Michigan Sheriff’s Association convention June 25–28 at Sault Ste. Marie.
The Bessemer Township School District reports census changes across Ramsay Anvil Harding Puritan North Bessemer North Ramsay and Southeast Wakefield. Birth to five counts rose in several towns while five to twenty totals shifted, with Ramsay totaling 300 in that age band. Sheriff Chester J. Prebish and Police Chief Clayton Rund received Legion commendations for outstanding service at a banquet. Reino Hinch noted anti police trends and cited pay and liability issues as concerns.

An 11 30 p m Tuesday accident three miles south of Black River Harbor injured two people. Wilson lost control of his car, striking trees on Harbor Road. His passenger Miss Kathw Jacobson Route 1 Bessemer suffered cuts and bruises. Both were taken to Grand View Hospital for treatment and released.

James H. Keenan son of Mr and Mrs Hugo F Keenan of 304 East Longyear Street received a bachelor of science degree in liberal arts from Wisconsin State University Superior. He majored in business administration. Graduation occurred on June 2.
