Dan Laughner was returned to the Bessemer township school district board as a member and Steve Mussat will replace Edwin Smith. Laughner led a field of six candidates for two offices with 625 votes. Electors approved a levy exceeding the 15 mill tax limit for five years, 563 to 268, the fifth successive renewal since 1933.

Bjarne M. Knudsen of Ramsay will receive a bachelor of arts in economics from Carleton College at outdoor commencement Sunday June 11 at 430 p m. He is a 1950 graduate of A D Johnston high school and son of Mr and Mrs B J Knudsen Ramsay. The class of 1950 has 273 seniors, the largest in Carleton history. Dr Willard Thorp of Princeton University will give the main address at graduation with baccalaureate services the morning of the ceremony.

The Bessemer Merchants extended their unbeaten run with weekend wins over Wakefield and Erwin. Gustafson led a 145 win over Wakefield, striking out six and allowing 10 hits. Zanetti and Barber added key doubles as Bessemer piled up 16 hits. Sunday, Chad Barber sealed a win for Bessemer by relief pitching after Erwin’s early lead dissolved.
