World War II veteran found dead in washroom
Albert J. Slivinsky, 41, a World War II veteran, was found dead in a tavern washroom at 11 45 p m Saturday. Autopsy showed a severe skull fracture and brain hemorrhage and cause awaits a lab report. Burial was in Hillcrest cemetery with several surviving relatives listed. Preliminary plans for the 4th of July celebration were discussed by the Chamber of Commerce with a meeting set for Monday night.

Red Zanetti added three hits for Bessemer, while Vic Giachino and Don Ahnen homered for Ramsay. Barber relieved Don Gustafson in the fifth, holding Ramsay to two hits the rest of the way after Gustafson allowed seven on 4 1/3 innings. A five run eighth inning clinched the victory, keeping the Merchants atop the Western division of the Inter-State league.

VFW Plans Annual Picnic and Parade Efforts
The VFW on Wednesday approved the August 13 picnic with Frank Drazkowski Jr. as general chairman. A Fourth of July parade committee was formed to coordinate with the American Legion, with members Louis Calligaro Warren Smith John Bruckbauer and Norman Lind. The post also considered military rites for non members, tabled for next meeting. They invited attendance at a June 19 dinner by Peace Pipe Recreational Association at the St James hotel Ironwood. Lloyd Doney was endorsed for the Michigan Boys State project. Motion pictures were shown by Sgt. Stanley Birk and refreshments served.

Township firemen elect officers in Bessemer precincts
Officers of the Bessemer township fire department were elected at the annual meeting last Tuesday night. Ramsay to Have Gala Fourth of July
Ramsay prepares for Independence Day festivities after a Fourth of July Planning Council meeting in the American Legion clubrooms. The council, drawing from four local groups, named officers, assigned committee chairs for parade races decorations and more, and set a June 16 follow up.
