Former Resident Dies in Dunham in 65th Year
Lucia Dosio Conterio, born 1885 in Favria Italy, died last Thursday at age 65 in Dunham where she had lived since 1927 with husband James M. Conterio. She came to Bessemer in 1907 worked at John Scavarda home, married in 1908, and was active in St. Catherine's church and several fraternal groups. Survived by husband, three sons James Jr B J Conterio and Louis at home, daughter Mrs Waldemar Henning, seven grandchildren. Funeral Monday at St Catherine's Marenisco with burial in Hillcrest Bessemer. Remains at C W Moore Funeral Home. Pallbearers named.

Mrs Jennie Berg Honored On Birthday Open House
Mrs Jennie Louis Berg aged 83 celebrated her birthday with an open house at her West County road home. Neighbors and friends attended, recalling her since 1898 residence in the community. Granddaughters presented a decorated cake. grandson David Berg sent Yale candles. Present were her two sons and daughters and families Arvid Nelson, Henry Berg, Nellie and Ed, plus nephew Herman Berg and wife from Crystal Falls.

Dom Denessen Dies In Green Bay
Miss Fiella Knobloch returned from Green Bay Wisconsin where she attended the funeral of her brother in law Domenic Denessen last Thursday. The cause of death was coronary thrombosis after a month of treatment for a heart condition. Deceased was president of the Green Bay Wholesale Grocery Co established by his father. Surviving him are his widow the former Josephine Knobloch of Bessemer a daughter Miss Doris at home and one son Domenic Jr a student at the University of St Norbert’s De Pere Wisconsin.

The Business and Professional Women's club held its Christmas party at the Elks club rooms last Monday. Sunshine friends for the year were announced and new pairs chosen for the coming year. Gifts were handed out by Miss Becky Gray as Mrs Santa Claus. Tables featured festive decorations. Hostesses included Mrs Goldie Gray and Mrs Mary Lou ise Hoffner among others. Decorations were coordinated by several members including Mrs Olga Richardson.

Presbyterian Sunday school presented a Christmas program with recitations songs and a tableau. Participants included Ruth Hansen Audrey McMinn Joan Barbacovi Margie Baird Bonnie Young Billy Baird and many others. The Rev. Robert Zarsen gave prayers and benediction. Sgt. William Newman was promoted to sergeant and Miss Tess Whitburn plans to visit for Christmas.

Funeral Rites For Mrs Springhetti Held At St Sebastian
Funeral services were held last Thursday for Mrs. Nicholas Springhetti 85 who died Sunday in Chicago. The Rev C J Swoboda officiated at St Sebastian Church with Rev David Harris and Rev Michael Hale Wakefield as deacons. Interment followed at Hillcrest cemetery. Pallbearers were four sons Nicholas Joseph Detroit John Bessemer and Peter Pontiac and two sons in law John Salemi Chicago and Peter Lancharte Pontiac. Out of town relatives included Mr and Mrs John Salemi Chicago Mr and Mrs Sante Janzito Mr and Mrs Joseph Springhetti Mr and Mrs Christ Tizani Mr and Mrs Nicholas Springhetti all of Detroit Mr and Mrs Peter Springhetti and Mr and Mrs Peter Loncharte Pontiac and Mr and Mrs Jerome Springhetti Hurley.

The Anvil-Palms Woman's Club held a Christmas party last Thursday at the club house with a ravioli supper. At a Trinity Lutheran Ladies Aid meeting new officers were elected. Sgt Bongiovanni at Camp Carson
Sergeant Joseph J. Bongiovanni, son of Mr and Mrs John Bongiovanni of 209 W Sellar St Bessemer, serves with Headquarters Battery 537th Field Artillery Battalion at Camp Carson Colorado. He joined the military in 1942 trained at Fort McClellan and fought in seven campaigns with the 82nd and 101st Airborne in Europe. The 537th saw action in Tunisia Sicily France and Germany and was reactivated at Camp Carson on October 1 1948. His decorations include the Kamet ribbon with arrowhead, three French citations, Good Conduct, Victory, German occupation, Belgian and French Fourragères, Distinguished Unit Badge with oak leaf, parachute badge with two stars, and drivers badge with bar.
