Mrs John Morris Dies Saturday
Mrs John J Morris 74 died last Saturday at her South Bessemer home after 48 years in the community She was born Reeta Piri on March 15 1876 in Pudas Jarvi Finland came to the U S in 1900 and married John J Morris July 9 1902 The couple settled in Bessemer where they ran a farm Surviving are her husband four daughters two sons seven grandchildren and three brothers Funeral services were held at the J J Frick Funeral Home with Rev Victor Maki officiating Burial was at Hillcrest Cemetery Pallbearers included Charles and Emil Morris Konstu Hill Everett Kauppi Toivo Taivalmaa and Bernard Hannula.

On January 1, 1951, Michigan coach Bennie Oosterbaan’s Wolverines meet California in Pasadena for Michigan’s third Rose Bowl bid. The 1902 team, “Champions of the West,” defeated Stanford 49–0, with Art Redner of Bessemer aboard as halfback.

Charles F. Loerke 72 suffered a fatal heart attack at 8 15 after delivering Abraham Lincoln Gettysburg Address from memory at a Christmas party hosted by United Spanish War Veterans of Armory and Martha Washington auxiliary in Oshkosh Wisconsin. He served in the Spanish American War and leaves two sons two sisters and two grandchildren. Funeral held December 9 with military rites.
