Ashland ore season closes with record shipments
The 1910 ore shipping season ended with the last boat, the Vitel, unloading 4,600 tons at the Northwestern docks on Tuesday. Total Ashland shipments reached 4,098,822 tons from three docks, valued at over 14.5 million dollars, surpassing previous port records by about 360,000 tons. Last year’s figure was 8,786,744 tons, indicating a rise of 257,038 tons this year.

Circuit Court News Reports Thursday Session
The circuit court completed its work on Thursday and will reconvene December 12 to hear two cases. Judge Cooper on Thursday appointed a commission to examine Edward Pierson, who shot his son in law, regarding his sanity and to report at the December 12 hearing. Mike Lenear of Ironwood, found guilty of murder two weeks ago, was sentenced to 15 years in the state penitentiary.

Bears Shot After False Lead Near North Bessemer
Four men Chas Johnson John Hendrickson Andrew Newman and John Hill hunted three bears near North Bessemer. Hendrickson jokingly lured companions to a log where he fired, revealing a bear. Next day Axel Hansen joined the search. while inspecting a windfall the tree moved, Hansen fell, and a bear with two cubs emerged. The bears were shot and brought to town.

Nunting Season Closed Heavy Deer Slaughter Despite Fewer Fatalities
The Michigan deer season ended with an unusually large deer kill aided by snowy ground and high hunter numbers. Rail and express firms report more venison handled than last year as north woods goers return home with deer. Accidents were fewer than last fall, though several hunters were lost in the woods for days and Gogebic county saw no deaths among twenty two non fatal accidents in the upper peninsula.
