Traveling rug peddlers struggle in Bessemer as two men confront license violations. George Bazooke of Grand Rapids was convicted for driving without a chauffeur license and violating peddling laws, receiving 30 days in county jail. Deputy sheriff made the arrest. Three Bands To Give Concert Here Friday
An outdoor concert will be held at 8 o clock this Friday evening at the Massie Field band shell in Bessemer by the massed bands from Bessemer Hurley and Wakefield. Funeral services for eight month old Nancy Puranen
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon for Nancy eight month old daughter of Mr and Mrs Matt Puranen of the Black River road north of Bessemer. The child died Sunday at 4 pm. Rev Jacob Hirvi conducted the Finnish National Lutheran church service and burial was in the local cemetery. Pallbearers were Jean Hauta Viola Auvinen Ellen Mark and Dora Maki.

In Superior Wisconsin on Saturday funeral services were held for Oscar John Ahlgren 63 widow Lida Hayes of Bessemer. He died August 2 after gastric ulcer operation. Former Douglas County register of deeds and local baseball figure born in Prescott Wisconsin lived in Superior 45 years. Survivors include Mrs Ahlgren two sons Frank of Memphis and John of Superior a brother and three sisters. Howard Hayes attended.

A traveling carnival company paid 360.50 to the State of Michigan after being charged in the Upper Peninsula with operating five trucks without Michigan license plates. Investigators say the Michigan owned organization used license plates from another state. state law allows foreign vehicles 10 days for commercial use, but Michigan owned vehicles cannot operate without Michigan plates.

Relief Goods Seller Pleads Guilty In Ironwood Court
John Erickson admitted illegally selling food from the relief department in municipal court. He received 15 days in county jail after failing to pay 325 dollars in fines and costs. W H McNamara, county relief administrator, filed the complaint. Emilia Anderson, wife of an Ironwood tavern owner, also got 15 days for buying goods from Erickson and defaulted on 36 dollars in fines and costs.

Gas Tax Distributes to 83 Michigan Counties
State Highway Commissioner Murray D. Van Wagoner announced 1,275,000 in gasoline tax receipts for the first half of 1939 will be shared among 83 counties to offset reduced automobile weight tax revenues.
