Massive Drive in South Seeks Negro Voters
Teams of white college students, Negro youths, and adults spread across five counties in six Southern states for a summer voter drive organized by the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. In Alabama, 31 white students worked to register Negroes, teaching literacy and registration test basics as 104 Negroes took tests, while nearby Selma saw over 200 taking tests. The effort aims to mobilize registration without mass demonstrations, with roughly 900 workers total including 106 staff, 400 students, and 300 locals.
