Pollution Uni Asks Spending Of All Funds
The nine member Water Pollution Control Advisory Board urged disbursement of the full 800 million Congress provided for municipal sewage treatment plants. President Nixon opposed the large appropriation, preferring 214 million for 1970, while Interior Secretary Hickel favored cash subsidies over federal loans. The panel urged standard two stage treatment for coastal and inland cities and outlawing deep well disposal of liquid wastes.
