Whalen Seeks Revision of Honors Program Rules
Thomas J. Whalen urges changes in how students are placed into honors and advanced placement tracks in secondary schools. He proposes allowing entry into honors anytime a student, parents, and teachers agree he can handle it, and starting with one or two honors courses in seventh grade. He notes four honors courses in junior year overburdens many students and suggests phasing out advanced placement unless more students beyond the top tier are admitted.
