Giving Up on Citizens Hall Favored for Stockbridge

Citizens Hall Committee in Stockbridge reports lack of public interest in restoring the hall as a useful public building. Restoration costs were estimated at 30 000 to 40 000 dollars, with possible federal aid covering half if certified as a landmark. At least 15 000 dollars would be needed from town or private sources. Potential uses include meeting space for Boy Scouts, Interlaken Community Club, public social activities, private rentals, and cultural education efforts. Vital statistics for Stockbridge show births rising to 31 in 1969 from 24 in 1968, marriages dropping to 26 from 35, and deaths increasing to 31 from 22, the highest being 32 in 1986.

Citizens Hall Restoration Plans Discussed

Committee chair William A. Lestie led, with Mrs. Lavina Haywood and others on the panel.
